I am a USMC vet and have been going to the Long Beach VA health center for about a year on almost a weekly basis. I always stop at the canteen for a snack before heading home. There is usually live music and air conditioned indoor seating with lots of patio seating outside. I will usually stop by the Patriot store just for kicks. Great prices on things and the merchandise is always changing. I finally got my hat to show I served from the store!

If you are at Long Beach VA during breakfast hours and hungry, the canteen is your only choice. The atmosphere is utilitarian, clean, and functional. You can choose from ready to serve hot table items, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, etc, or cooked to order eggs and several omelets or design your own omelets. Coffee and other drinks are available in that area. A separate area has a Coffee Bar. A combination #1, 2 eggs of scrambled, 1 sausage patty, hash brown wedge, 1 biscuit, 2 butter and jelly packets cost me $5,00. Coffee was $1.00.

This place is like heaven for a veteran. I could hang out and interact with all of the wonderful, caring, friendly staff and patients all day long. The prices will make you think everything is half off. Please visit this place and enjoy it like I do.

The pandemic has for the most part, shut down their grill ops. Ordered a burger which consists of a reheated patty on a bone cold bun. Blechh! My own fault as I didn't notice all the pre packaged salads. They could do a better job wiping down the tables and sweeping... place was a mess.

This is the place. My favorite place on base in the Military was the canteen and there are two here. I avoided the mess hall as much as possible except breakfast... eggs to order and hash browns. Well the short order cook at the canteen grill did an awesome job when I visited the canteen here for the first time. A veggie omelette and hash brown plus grits. I am getting hungry now.

First, I would like to say Thank to all of You for the service, the patient and those who served in the military. You have given us the life of safety with freedom. I had opportunity to spend some time at the Canteen and Patriot Café, in VA Long Beach. I’m kind of skeptical at first, later, enjoyed and fulfilled taste for the lunch. The layout of the Patriot Café was nice, love it. I will definitely stop back in again, when come back here in the future. They also have Starbucks here. Sorry for the pix that I have finished half of it. Lots of loves.

Everyone is always nice and friendly. Everything is decently priced. Everyone is always willing to help. Just like other VA canteens there's a big of selection. The food is on point in the cafe. Fresh, fast, cheap, and tasty! And you can never beat tax free.
